This year's Congregational Church of San Mateo’s Visionary Voices awardee and speaker is acclaimed novelist, humorist and spiritual writer, Anne Lamott. The New York Times commented “Lamott is a narrator who has relished and soaked up the details of her existence, equally of mirth and devastation, and spilled them onto her pages.”

In her next book, Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers (November 2012), Ms. Lamott gives us three prayers to assist us in trying times. [At this time, no books will be available for sale at the event.] You are encouraged to purchase this new book through local independent booksellers, such as Books Inc., or purchase additional titles at your Friends of the Library book stores.

Anne Lamott has played a significant role in giving Christianity an authentic and compassionate face in a language that speaks into the reality of people’s lives. She has increased awareness of social justice, and we believe she serves as a visionary voice of Progressive Christianity.

Online registration required. Cost is $25 and includes a reception, book signing, and talk featuring Anne Lammot.

Visionary Voices is an educational and inspirational speaker series offered by the Congregational Church of San Mateo. Our first Visionary Voice recipient in 2010 was Rev. Dr. Jim Keck.
