SamTrans Installs New Fare Boxes

The state-of-the-art fare boxes will accept cash, coins, tokens and paper magnetic-stripe tickets, SamTrans said.

The installation of new fare boxes on all 296 SamTrans buses is underway and will be completed by the end of the month, according to SamTrans officials.

The state-of-the-art fare boxes will accept cash, coins, tokens and paper magnetic-stripe tickets, SamTrans said. They can issue a change card if a customer overpays and they will eventually be able to sell day passes.

SamTrans has been testing the new fare boxes since April, and will be providing a "how-to" guide to riders. A short video on how to use them is also available on the SamTrans website at www.samtrans.org.
