PJCC Gets a New Preschool Director

Kathleen Seabolt will take over for Judy Garb at the end of this month.

It means saying goodbye to a beloved face, but gaining a new one at the same time.

Judy Garb, who has served as director of the Peninsula Jewish Community Center's (PJCC) preschool for 26 years, has announced her retirement at the end of this month.

Earlier this week, the PJCC named Kathleen Seabolt as her successor.

"Finding a replacement of Ms. Garb’s caliber was an ambitious task, but the exemplary qualifications and skills were found in Ms. Seabolt, who brings a wealth of experience to the PJCC," said Eileen Mitchell, marketing communications manager of the PJCC, of Seabolt's appointment. "Ms. Seabolt’s ability to sculpt a superior learning environment while nurturing a caring community will make her a perfect fit with the preschool."

Mitchell said Seabolt has an extensive background in early childhood education of all levels, from administrative responsibilities and strategic planning to program development, staff training and front-end operations.

"She will partner with the PJCC's Director of Jewish Life, Rabbi Lavey Derby, to continue integrating Jewish values and learning into the preschool curriculum," Mitchell added.

In her spare time, Seabolt is an active member of the World Forum Foundation Nature Action Collaborative for Children, which addresses how children "are adversely affected by their diminishing connection with the natural world."

She also serves on the Board of Alternatives in Action, a nonprofit organization that provides at-risk youth with opportunities to achieve their dreams for college, career and community service. In addition, she coaches drama classes, including directing the annual Shakespeare play for the  Academy of Alameda middle school.
