Mountain Lion Spotted Wednesday Night in Portola Valley

The cat was seen at about 7:40 p.m. in the area of the 100 and 200 blocks of Willowbrook Drive.

A mountain lion was spotted in a rural residential neighborhood in Portola Valley on Wednesday night, San Mateo County emergency officials said.

The cat was seen at about 7:40 p.m. in the area of the 100 and 200 blocks of Willowbrook Drive. San Mateo County sheriff's deputies responded to the neighborhood, but the mountain lion had moseyed elsewhere by the time they arrived.

Residents are advised not to approach mountain lions, and should avoid hiking or jogging at dawn, dusk, and night, when the animals are most active.
