The former Foster City mayor and longtime Lions Club member passed away on Saturday. Cox was 61.

"He died from complications from Diabetes," said Former Lions Club President and Lion Eleanor Lindquist. "We will all miss him he was a great Lion and a great community leader."

Cox had been elected president of the Lions Club to serve from July 2011 to 2012.

"His service to the community was exceptional and long it will take many of us to continue his work," Lindquist said. "God Bless him and bring him safely home." 

"The City Council and staff of Foster City deeply grieve the loss of Planning Commissioner Ron Cox," city officials said in a statement today.

"It truly is a sad time for all who loved Ron.  I know of no other person in this City who gave more of his time to help kids, raise money and create goodwill as Ron Cox.  No one can compare with the amount of energy he gave to all of us and his commitment to making this City the best," Councilmember Pam Frisella told Patch.

"When he was mayor and I was vice mayor I learned so much from him and to this day he remains my most favorite mentor," Frisella said. "I will miss him very much."

Mayor Linda Koelling spoke warmly of former Mayor Cox, whom she noted, “gave service with devotion such that he earned the respect and admiration of all with whom he came in contact, both professionally and personally.”
