Foster City residents took part in the on Sunday.

“I think what's so special about the event are its benefits, particularly socialization and physical activity,” said Foster City’s Recreation Superintendent, Jennifer Clark.

In Foster City’s second year participating in Streets Alive, residents were encouraged to take walks in the city’s parks and to attend free public exercise classes at the amphitheater.

“We have two main events—a workout from the folks over at Fearless Fitness and, afterwards, a fun Bollywood workout,” said Lawrence.

Kicking the day off, residents joined in a fitness workout led by Fearless Fitness.

“The FFIT workout is mixed martial arts, influenced by yoga, Pilates, boot camp and second grade recess,” said Melissa Tosetti. “We have a lot of our students out here and hope that others will join us.”

The high-energy fitness class was followed by a class called Fusion Beatz that incorporates Bollywood dance moves.

“The theme is fitness and to have fun at the same time,” said Fusion Beatz Bollywood fitness instructor, Sangita Ghosh. "The program was designed by a Kaiser physician, who knows a lot about the body and how to work it out in a safe and fun way."

Fusion Beatz has locations in Foster City, South San Francisco, San Mateo, San Ramon, Fremont and San Jose, and is continuously growing.

“It started out as a small group that wanted to have fun and workout together and boomed from there,” said Ghosh.

Gulshan Kumar brought his whole family to the Foster City Streets Alive event.

“We saw that they had a Bollywood show with some performances, so we came out,” he said. “The kids have been really excited.”

The events brought the community together in an active and fun way.

“The idea of Streets Alive is to get out and move, and we want everyone to join in and participate,” said Dr. Aruna Chinnakotia, co-founder of Fusion Beatz.
