Construction on Levee Pedway Begins Today

City officials expect construction to run 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday for the next six weeks.

Foster City will begin a comprehensive repair of its levee pedway today, officials said.

The project, which is expected to last around six weeks, will focus on repairs to the approximately 2 1/2 miles from the intersection of Foster City Boulevard and Beach Park Boulevard to the western limits of Lantern Cove property.

"Because of the extensive work required, the project is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete," officials said in a statement. "However, weather or unforeseen conditions may affect the overall schedule. The City appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to maintain and keep the pedway facility in good condition."

City officials expect construction to take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, there may be instances when construction will happen outside these hours.

The work will include repair of pavement failures, followed by either repaving or seal coating of the asphalt surface.  Seal coating involves the application of a thin surface layer of sand with emulsified asphaltic oil.  A new, two-foot wide, decomposed granite jogging path from Sea Cloud Park to the western limits of Lantern Cove property also will be built.

City officials have asked the public to exercise caution around construction areas. Pedway users should expect some temporary closures in the coming weeks; the closures will be confined to small sections being repaired and will be limited in duration to minimize disruption.  Signs will be posted in advance of closures to advise the public. Additionally, construction information will be posted on the City’s website.
