When is weight loss not just weight loss? When it has the potential to save and change a life. Annette Vernon of Foster City is a JumpstartMD patient who had a devastating and tenacious family history of cancer.

She joined JumpstartMD in October of 2012 with over fifty pounds of excess body weight. Compelled by her doctor’s warnings that, although she couldn’t change her genetics, Annette could manage her personal statistics by controlling how much she weighed, her alcohol consumption and her level of physical activity.

“I tipped the scales at nearly 200 pounds. Based on my previous efforts, this was going to be at least a one-year effort. But my results were profoundly different with JumpstartMD than they had been with any other weight loss program that I’d tried in the past. I’ve shed 53 pounds in 6 months. I know that I will stick with the healthy eating habits I’ve learned for a lifetime,” said Annette.

The diagnosis of cancer is very prevalent today.

“Too often cancer is considered a random curse that strikes its victims, when in fact excess weight can significantly increase the risk for a number of types of cancer. There are, however, ways to strengthen both body and mind to improve the odds of remaining cancer-free. The food and drink one consumes impacts the functionality and longevity of the human body,” said Dr. Sean Bourke, co-founder of JumpstartMD.

The JumpstartMD program’s mission is to reeducate patients to understand the best possible way to fuel their bodies while losing weight. The program focuses on patients consuming real, and when possible, organic foods to help them reduce the risk of developing such diseases as cancer and diabetes.
