Mobile cloud data app company Funambol grabs prestigious tech award.

A Foster City-based cloud application firm is in tech heaven.

Funambol announced on Monday that it won the prestigious 2012 Mobile Merit Award.

The company is a leading provider of generic “white-label” cloud technology that is re-branded by some of the world’s most well known mobile tech firms. Funambol has non-disclosure agreements with all of its leading clients with the exception of AOL, Patch’s parent company.

"Funambol is thrilled to be recognized by the Mobile Merit Awards for best overall mobile apps enabler," Funambol CEO Amit Chawla said in a prepared statement.

"The personal cloud market is exploding worldwide and our white-label solution for mobile providers is truly having a profound impact on the industry and users. The award is external validation of this and all of the hard work by the people of Funambol who are making it happen."

Funambol employs 15 at its Foster City office and 75 worldwide, a spokeswoman told Patch. The company was founded in Italy 10 years ago and has existed as a commercial entity for six years.

Funambol’s technology is developed for top-tier mobile phone makers, mobile operators, Internet portals and software companies providing personal cloud services to millions of consumers worldwide.

The company offers a limited trial service to consumers who can get 150 free megabytes of storage.
