Faces and Places of Foster City: Gold Medal Martial Arts

Read Patch's question-and-answer session with the owner of Gold Medal Martial Arts, Herb Perez.

How and when did Gold Medal Martial Arts get started in Foster City? I developed the Coaching and Athlete Development Curriculum for the entire United States for the Olympic sport of Taekwondo. I decided to build a model for high-level training of young Olympic hopefuls. are the fruit of that tree.

How has it grown? In six years, we have more than 1,100 young athletes enrolled with a high-level, Olympic-hopeful team that is competing at the USA National Championships. Foster City and San Mateo have the best families and there were no other schools to provide the caliber of athletic training we offer. As a result, we have grown and will be opening new branches in Belmont, San Carlos and Palo Alto in the next 18 months.

What are the benefits of martial arts? Taekwondo is the most modern and progressive of the martial arts while maintaining the traditional attributes of respect, discipline and personal development. It is a total mind, body and spirit development that provides students with the skill sets to succeed in school and life.
