The quake registered 4.0 on the richter scale with a depth of about 5.5 miles about one mile southeast of East Richmond Heights, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A second 2.0 quake was reported at about 6:03 a.m. at the same location.

The newswire hasn't yet indicated which fault line unloaded, but judging by the map, the Hayward fault looks to be the prime suspect.

BART stopped trains due to the first temblor, and held trains at stations for 5 to 10 minutes to check the tracks for damage. Trains continue to have short delays this morning as the system gets back on track.
