Best-Selling Author of 'Julie and Julia' Coming to San Mateo

Julie Powell, best-selling author of 'Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously' (2005), will speak at the San Mateo Library Foundation's second annual gala.

The San Mateo Public Library Foundation has announced its second annual author's Gala will feature Julie Powell, best-selling author of Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously (2005) and Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat and Obsession (2009).

The Gala, which will take place on May 4 at 6:30 p.m., is the library’s signature fundraising event and will be held at the San Mateo Public Library, located at 55 W. 3rd Ave. in San Mateo.

Award-winning local ABC news anchor Carolyn Johnson will be Master of Ceremonies and food will be catered by From Soup to Nuts. The Gala will also include a raffle drawing, where the grand prize is a gorgeous trio of Paloma Picasso designed jewelry from Tiffany’s and will also include a live auction.

Raffle tickets will be sold at the San Mateo Main Library beginning April 1 or by calling (650)558-9100 ($20 each or a book of six for $100).

Gala proceeds will support free educational and cultural programs as well as the purchase of books and materials for the San Mateo Public Library, according to San Mateo Public Library Foundation President Linda Fitzpatrick.

"Last year, a portion of the gala proceeds were used to purchase interactive play and learn furniture for our Children’s Department as part of our Fund A Need program," Fitzpatrick said.

Gala tickets are $175 per person and are on sale at the San Mateo Public Library by calling in to the SMPLF office at (650)558-9100 to reserve your space.

For more information or to purchase Gala or raffle tickets, please call Kate Korsh or Jill Jacobson at (650)558-9100 or visit http://www.smlibraryfoundation.org.
