Saturday, Sept. 24

Monday, Sept. 26

Six city council hopefuls in a forum at candidate debate. A $2.8 million budget deficit, construction of a new elementary school, revitalization of the city’s retail industry, and the future of a 15-acre downtown development parcel dominated the debate.

Tuesday, Sept. 27

More than a 100 people attended a memorializing the life of Michelle Le at Oakland’s Samuel Merritt University.

Le, a 26-year-old nursing student from San Mateo, had been missing for four months when search teams found her decomposed body off a road in Sunol Canyon, a rural patch of Alameda County between Pleasanton and Sunol.

 

Wednesday, Sept. 28

A lawyer who for now is representing Le’s accused killer said she will ask that her client be at her next court appearance.

Giselle Diwag Esteban, 27 of Union City, is in the third trimester of her pregnancy and is being held at a Santa Rita Jail infirmary. Andrea Auer said she will make the request at Esteban’s Oct. 24 plea hearing.

 

Thursday, Sept. 29

over the last decade, according to a troublesome study released by the Bay Area Association of Governments.

 

Friday, Sept. 30

The Foster City Police Department has issued an warning the public to be on alert amid a spike in auto burglaries in September.

The advisory, which was issued by Police Chief Craig Courtin, says that many of these crimes are preventable, noting that burglars view car break-ins as “a crime of opportunity.”
