Monday, March 26

Foster City Police believe the of  24-year-old suspected intruder from San Mateo is a , a spokesman said on Monday.

Police Capt. Jon Froomin said the man was looking for his friends at the wrong address and was walking outside the house trying to open doors when he was shot by a guest at a home on the 600 block of Crane Avenue.

The shooter was identified as a Brentwood man in his 40s.

Tuesday, March 27

A sophomore on the Stanford women's volleyball team died on Sunday.

, 19, had been in an intensive care unit since she suffered an undisclosed medical emergency at her Stanford home on March 17, university officials said.

Wopat, a former junior Olympian and member of the 2010 U.S. Women's Junior National Team, joined the Stanford women's volleyball team in  2010 along with her twin sister, Carly.

 

Wednesday, March 28

A Foster City-based tech company .

Webopedia.com, an online dictionary for all things tech, took top honors at the 2012“WebAwards.”

The site, which is powered by QuinStreet.com, a Foster City-based online marketing firm, was  heralded the "most useful online tech dictionary" available today by Web Marketing Association, which gave the company high marks for “creativity, design, innovation, impact, copywriting and memorability,” according to a company press release.

 

Thursday, March 29

A Wednesday night triggered a brief evacuation and emergency crews responded to reports of a suspicious package.

The package turned out to be harmless.

 

Friday, March 30

Two San Mateo-Foster City School District elementary schools received .

and schools were named 2012 California Distinguished Schools, the district announced Thursday.

“We are proud to have two of our schools recognized as California Distinguished Schools,” said Dr. Cynthia Simms, San Mateo-Foster City School District Superintendent.

“It’s a strong indicator of the exemplary parent and community involvement, academic achievement, and commitment of teachers and school staff at both North Shoreview Montessori and Laurel Elementary Schools,” she said.
