Pet of the Week: Savannah of Foster City

Meet one of Foster City's own beloved pets.

For this week's Pet of the Week, reader Kim Lloyd submitted her labrador, Savannah.

"Savannah is a beautiful Yellow Labrador who will be 18 years young in April.  She became a member of our family on April 28th, 2009.  We rescued her from the Peninsula Humane Society," Lloyd said.  "We call her our ‘Walmart Greeter’. Savannah has brought nothing by joy to our family, and the past two years have been more time that we ever thought we’d have with her.  We hope she’ll be with us for a long time to come."

At the time of her adoption, Savannah was 16 years old with very limited mobility and was overweight.  After just a few months of two walks a day, Savannah lost 10 pounds while her mobility remained somewhat limited, she progressed from a very slow walk with many pauses along the way to a quick trot occasionally.

"She doesn’t do anything fast, except eat, which I might add she won first place as the ‘Fastest Eater’ at the Foster City July 4th Dog Contest last year! She’ll be entering again this year to try to hold on to that title," Lloyd said.

"If you’d like to meet Savannah, we are usually at Sea Cloud Park (weather permitting) on most Saturday and Sunday mornings between 7 and 8 a.m.," Lloyd invited Foster City Patch readers. "She loves to wander around, rarely stopping, except to meet any humans and their dogs that come by."
