Kindergardener Qualifies for Nationals

6 year old, Joaquin Jasso of Gold Medal Martial Arts of Foster City defeated all competitors in his division to clinch the National Qualifying spot for the upcoming USA Junior Olympics in San Jose in July 2011. His father Mr. Jasso coached him to victory. “Mr. Jasso and his entire family are part of our Family Class program, every member of his family participates in a different program here at the Center.” explained Master Perez. “Mr. Jasso is in our Olympic Coach Development program and coaches his two sons while Mrs. Jasso exercising in our KiDo cardio program and Taekwondo classes.”Joaquin outscored his opponents using a combination of kick and punches. “Taekwondo athletes are known for their outstanding kicking ability, however the GM Center also has some of the best punchers in the sport.” Young Jasso will be joining his older brother as they attempt to become Junior Olympic Champions in San Jose.The competition Team under the direction of 1992 Olympic Gold Medalist Master Perez is preparing its competition team for the challenge. ‘The children and families are awesome” offered Team Manager Mr. Cha. “Our school has some of the Bay Area’s best talent in the sport. Every athlete has Gold Medal potential.”The Gold Medal Olympic Development Program created by Master Perez trains young athletes who have set their sights on an Olympic Medal. The athletes participate in a year-round training program with a rigorous competitive schedule. ‘This is the only program of its kind in the Bay Area, our athletes range in age from 5 to 30 years old.” explains Team Coach Mr. McCuin. “Every month we identify a new athlete with potential to medal from our evaluation and try-out process. We are extremely impressed with the progress of our young team. We welcome all martial artists to challenge themselves for our team.”
