Two Foster City Restaurants Closed for Health Reasons

According to the website for the San Mateo County Health System, two restaurants in Foster City were forcibly closed last week due to health code violations.

at 933 E. Hillsdale Blvd. and Buri Tara Thai Cuisine at 939-A Edgewater Blvd. were closed on May 15 and May 17, respectively.

The website lists the specific reasons each restaurant were closed - and while Togo's reason may be somewhat minor, the violations by Buri Tara are numerous, and serious, including the fact that the restaurant was operating without a permit in the first place.

Togo's was ordered closed on May 15 for having no hot water, which is important when cleaning in order to effectively kill bacteria.

Buri Tara Thai Cuisine's violations included "improper cooking time and temperature of potentially hazardous foods; food contact surfaces not being cleaned and sanitized; lack of hot and/or cold water; and operating without a health permit."

Business had been rather short-lived for the Thai restaurant - Buri Tara had only just opened less than two weeks before, on May 5, according to an article by The Lagonian.

It is unclear at this time whether the restaurants will be allowed to correct their violations and re-open, and no administrative hearings appear to be scheduled for either restaurant at this time.
