“The mural was painted by the community and for the community on the day when our community was celebrating the birthday of the state of Israel,” Rabbi and PJCC Director of Jewish Life Lavey Derby said in a prepared statement.

“The mural represents scenes from Israel. In the upper left corner you’ll see a white dove and the word ‘shalom.’

“This represents Israel’s eternal hope for peace.”

The mural is on display at the PJCC Art Gallery alongside the current art exhibition on loan from Lehrhaus Judaica: “Zakheim: The Art of Prophetic Justice” featuring the work of Bernard Zakheim (1896 – 1985).

The gallery is open to the public with free admission during the center’s regular business hours.
