CSM Track and Field: Uikilifi Gets Hat Trick
Mills High grad wins three titles at Coast Conference finals. McDaniel takes two on men's side as Bulldogs combine for seven throwing championships in eight events.
A bum shoulder slowed down arguably the state's best all-around female thrower.
But it wasn't nearly enough to stop College of San Mateo sophomore standout Nikki Uikilifi (Mills High), who took first place in three events over the weekend at the Coast Conference championships at Hartnell College of Salinas.
Competing with soreness in her throwing shoulder, Uikilifi won the shot put, discus and hammer throws, and placed second in the javelin, which is considered her best event.

Her 146 foot, 9 inch hammer throw was more than 13 feet longer than her closest competitor.
She was the meet’s top women’s scorer with 38 points.

CSM took titles in seven of eight throwing events overall.
On the men's side, Evan McDaniel won the shot put (55-5 ¾) and discus (157-0) and placed sixth in the hammer (122-8) and seventh in the javelin (144-1). He was the top field event scorer with 25 points.
Josh Uikilifi (Nikki's brother), who also went to Mills, won the men’s hammer throw with a 170-1.
Zeke Edwards won the javelin with a 171-7. He was among four Bulldogs to finish in the top seven. Nathan Wright (163-8) placed second.
CSM finished third overall with 128 points behind De Anza (162 1/2) and Hartnell (155).
Other top CSM performers included Roman Skovronski, who was second in the 400 meter hurdles (53.90 seconds). Keith Richardson placed a close third in the 100 (10.88) seconds, finishing five hundredths of a second behind the winner.
CSM placed fifth overall on the women's side. Conference champion Laney was led by 2010 USA High School Track and Field Athlete of the Year Aston Purvis, who won the 100 (11.42) and 200 (23.37) and led a 4x100 championship relay team (46.01).
The Bulldogs play host to the Northern California Community College Championships at College Heights Stadium later this week. The trials start Friday at 9:30 a.m.
